The beautiful and iconic Yungaba building, on a splendid site overlooking Brisbane CBD at Kangaroo Point, is Australia's only purpose built surviving 19th century immigrant reception centre. It gave a gracious welcome to hundreds of thousands of immigrants between construction in 1887 and 1995. Now its sale to a developer for conversion to 10 residences in a gated community has been approved but we plan to appeal in the Planning Court and are raising funds to meet legal costs. There will be a Yungaba Fundraising Concert on 14th June at 7pm at Ukrainian Hall, Cordelia Street (Vulture St end), South Brisbane. Entrance is $35 (unwaged $25) and there will be food and a bar.
