Guest hantsfamily1
Hi, My wife and 10 month old son are hoping to move to Brisbane September 2007 and have been looking on the internet at the Bayside area of Brisbane. Any personal experiences, opinions or info would be much appreciated. Thanks.
Guest Busy Bee
Hi My OH, four children and I are in Wellington Point in the Bayside area and can say it is very nice here. We have been here four months. We like all the Bayside area so if this is where you're heading you'll find something that will suit you. One thing that surprised us about Brisbane was how hilly it was! It's like rollercoaster rides on some roads. Fortunately Bayside is more level. The different suburbs are very close compared with what we were used to in London. I find driving a breeze and feel like I have my own private road even in the school runs! Hope that you find what you're looking for and all the best. Gita
Guest hantsfamily1
hi Hi Thanks for replying. I have passed the tra and my main application is in now so hopefully I will get a positive response around May time and we hope to be moving around September. My wife and young son 10 months old. I like the idea of being outside of the city but close enough to travel into for work if need be. I have checked out the bayside areas on the housing links and it seems lovely. Guest Busy Bee
Hi Mick My OH bought a motorbike! and rides into the city as his work is based there. Something I know if we were back in London I would not have been happy about. It takes him approx 40 mins from where we are. My advise is start the preparation of leaving well before you intend to leave as it all goes pretty quickly at the end. Initially I was very homesick and missed family and friends such that I didn't call home with the fear they would be worried about us. It didn't help in that we took a seven week holiday to get to Oz, stopping in Canada and USA and NZ to see family and friends. It was hard knowing we would not be seeing them all for sometime. It was our trip of a lifetime and the start to a new beginning. OH and four kids settled very quickly and loved it all. However, six months on and we are all happy I have made some friends and we are so much more relaxed in general. If you need to ask anything please do. Merry Christmas & Happy New Year to you all. Guest hantsfamily1
Hi Gita, Thanks for your reply, I will probably take you up on your offer of advice as the process moves along, hopefull during January I will be talking to my agent and finding out when we should be expecting news. Although I am not expecting anything for quite a while yet. I have looked at a few forums and am gathering information and timescales about when to do things in preperation for leaving etc. Have you had any visitors from home yet? We are hoping to have a few visitors in our first year to look forward too. Merry Christmas Mick
Guest Busy Bee
Hi Mick Unfortunately I doubt family or friends will visit us so soon, it may be a couple of years before we see them. I know people who have had family out here and it is real nice especially for the children. I have also seen that it is hard when they leave again. However, this is no different to when my sister from USA or brother from Canada visited us in the UK. It's always hard saying goodbyes. Having said that we hardly saw much of my other brother who is still in the UK even though we didn't live far apart.. mainly due to work, weather and illness Something that does not seem to be a setback here. Outdoor life it a must and the weather sure makes it possible! Kind Regards Gita
Guest hantsfamily1
Hi Gita, The more I read about people missing family and friends the more nervous feelings I get. I am totally committed to starting again next year in Oz and the sooner I have more positive news to act on the better I will feel. I have read a few comments about not taking anyone to the airport to see us off but I do hope friends and family will come out as often as possible. Take care Mick
