Guest Ondrej
My company offered me position in Cairns with relocation in about May/June and I have 3 weeks to decide. We(me and my gf) live in Sydney and enjoy it however Sydney has its own cons (traffic, housing affordability etc) and pros. I would appreciate any insight from anyone who lives or have lived in Cairns. What suburbs would you recommend? How how is it with services such as schools (planning family:) and hospitals? Anything we should know/be aware in Cairns? General advice? Thanks a lot to everyone
Guest Cerberus1
Sururbs, depends if you want to be near the beach or rainforest. Many expats head for the Northern Beaches - Trinity Beach, Clifton Beach, Palm Cove or if you prefer rainforest, then Redlynch Valley or parts of Brinsmead or Carivonica. We lived in Redlynch Valley for several years - this was the view from our house, it's probably the favourite place we've lived in the 10 years we've been in Australia. Schools, several good ones - St Monicas St Augustines, Freshwater Christian College, St Andrews, Peace Lutheran to name but a few. 2 Hospitals in Cairns one public, one private. Things you need to be aware of? There's a lack of specialists in some areas of medicine/surgery so waiting times could be long or travel could be involved, which is untimately, one of the reasons we had to leave Cairns.
