Guest John Miller
Hello everyone, I have a sister (an American) who is living in Cairns with her Australian boyfriend, and they are about to have children. They live in the Clifton Beach suburb north of the CBD. Is Cairns a good place to raise children? What is the quality of education there? Guest Ktee
Cairns is a great place to raise children. We moved up from Melbourne over 3 years ago with 3 children aged 9, 13 and 16 and all of them prefer Cairns to Melbourne even though they left good friends behind. There are some excellent schools and there are some crap schools, so a lot of it is down to research. Clifton Beach is a lovely area and one which we nearly bought in ourselves. When they get older you need to consider what career path they will take. If they are going in to tourism or hospitality then they will never be out of work, however, if they want to go in to IT then they are going to have to move to one of the larger cities.
