I start in Sydney and travel up to Cairns. But I think about change my plans and travel to Adelaide, because of the weather - the wetseason. I never been in Queensland and so Im not really sure if I should change my plan just because of the weather. What do you think? Is the weather in January and February really so bad that I should stay in the southern parts of Australia? Please help me. what would you do? Thanks
Guest cal
It wouldn't stop me travelling as you can't guarantee what the weather will do, its unpredictable. I would however keep an eye on forecasts whilst on my trip. Cal x
Guest carlhall
Just wondering if you realise how big QLD is, from Brisbane to cairns is over 1700 km, in that space you will come across rain, sun and heat, starting at the bottom of QLD you find a temperate climate and work your way up through sub tropical to tropical climates right up to the rain forests of Far North Queensland. It really is impossible to say what the weather is going to be like for such a vast state. it is quite possible to have a cyclone in FNQ and a heat wave further south. Staying in the southern states does not guarantee that you will not came across storms. it would be a shame if you just bypassed a very beautiful state because there is a chance of seeing a tropical storm. I would suggest you keep an eye on the weather forecasts and see how things go. Just as an example in my area we were hit with a storm on January 26th this year...... That was the last real rain we have had for the summer and nothing in the winter. it is not always raining in the summer here, just as it is not always humid, but listening to some people you would think that by stepping over the NSW border is an act of madness.

If you haven't been to the sub-tropics/tropics before and you wish to see something new you should still go. You'll get to see rainforests, incredible greenery, tropical plants, amazing rain, crocodiles, gushing waterfalls and other unique sights. If you are aiming to maximize your chances of mild summer weather you would be better to head as far south as possible. Places like Adelaide can have very dry hot weather sometimes in summer which is not comfortable either. Tasmania would be better.
Guest Ktee
I would head South to Adelaide and come up to Cairns between May - October
