.........another question which often comes up...........is where to stay .......?

..........often if you have children and want to visit the theme parks on the Gold Coast............

..........there is.......Nestled in the heart of Main Beach, ........Beaconlea Tower Apartments ........is an ideal spot from which to discover Gold Coast............or

............Conveniently located in Gold Coast, ........Coomera Motor Inn .............is a great base from which to explore this vibrant city.

...........both these places are near both Movie world and Dream world..........

............Sea world has its own resort..............seaworldresort.com.au.

............just a small part of places to stay in Queensland................would be great if others would post their holiday places............and a little review on where they stayed............for children..........or just a getaway for the adults............thanks...........tink x

When we visited the Gold Coast over Christmas my son booked us into the meriton serviced apartments, they are situated in Southport, very close to Sea World, we had a one bedroom apartment, with a fully equipped kitchen, shower cubicle, office, terrac, it was really cool, he booked over the Internet with bookings.com

http://m.meritonapartments.com.au/gold-coast/southport

if you are looking for somewhere with a self catering element you can't go wrong here, they are a drive away from Surfers ....

we stayed at the Mantra in Surfers, but it wasn't as nice as The meriton, lumpy pillows but the restaurant and service was good, but the location was great for the shops, restaurants and bars ....

we have just stayed at the Rendevous Hotel in Anne Street, Brisbane, weekend on business, nice rooms,

When we have visited the Gold Coast we often stay outside as we don't like the hustle and bustle of Surfers so we stay at Nobbys Beach at the Magic Mountain Resort. I am sure someone said it use to be a theme park or something in the old days. As you are on a cliff you have excellent views of the sea (saw my first whale from the balcony) and Surfers at Night. http://www.magicmountain.com.au/

Cairns (before we moved here) Coconut Resort (Big 4 site) probably the best Big 4 we've stopped at (and we've been to quite a few) - http://www.coconut.com.au/

If you want a site right on the edge of rainforest, then there's another Big 4 site in Redlynch valley - http://www.crystalcascades.com.au/accommodation.html

For backpackers preferring a lively central location, then Gilligan's in the place to head - http://www.gilligans.com.au/

Fitzroy Island - Cairns

Ok I decided I would stick up our neck of the woods (Cairns) for now.

A few weeks back we headed over to Fitzroy Island just for a couple of days rest. We booked the 2 bed Ocean Suite at locals rate. Prices for rooms start from $160, however they have a campsite right on the beach which is $35 per night and if I wasn't needing my luxuries I would definitely choose that next time. However, the suite was stunning, I could easily live there.

We absolutely loved it, although Rob got burnt going across on the boat, so didn't venture out on the beach. Me and the boys went snorkeling then hired a kayak and then did more snorkelling, the part we were snorkeling over didn't seem great and I told Rob it was no way near as good as the Maldives but then we went further up near the pier and all I can say is WOW, I saw stingrays, rainbow fish, angel fish. The down side of the holiday was I forgot about the back of my legs and got badly burnt, in fact it's still painful now and it's probably 3 weeks ago since we went.

The food was good but there wasn't a lot of choice on the menu.

Would I go again, YES, this week if I could. It is a lot more quiet than Green island which seems to be chaotic with tourists.

For a child free break near the Gold Coast i can recomend the Mouses House at Springbrook National Park,, beautiful private cabins in a woodland setting and so peaceful. No mobile recption though unless you drive 5 mins down the road.

.........I like the country towns..........a favourite of mine is Goomeri.........it is located on the Burnett Highway ............approximately 265 kilometres north-west of Brisbane

............Its surrounded by beef cattle grazing and dairy farming country .....................intersected by numerous small ranges,.............and occasionally interrupted by stands of eucalyptus scrub.

..............Springbrook - located 28km north-west - is home to Springbrook Farm, a host farm which also operates the VisitOz scheme that provides training and work for young tourists on outback properties all over the country; and Spring Gully Olives.

Booubyjan (30km north) is the site of Booubyjan Homestead, one of the district's original stations. Booubyjan now operates as a museum and function venue and is open to the public. Booubyjan also has its own hall, tennis court, community centre and schoolhouse.

................there is a caravan park .........a hotel and the nearby.........Cottage Accommodation & Historic Day Tours at Boonara Homestead

...............this is just one small country town..........well worth a visit IMO............and holds Major annual events including....................the Goomeri Show (held over two days at the Goomeri Showgrounds every March); .................................the Goomeri Pumpkin Festival (held on the last Sunday in May each year - this festival routinely draws thousands of visitors);...........

.................................the Goomeri-Manumbar Campdraft (most Octobers)

..............Goomeri is part of the South Burnett region.....

On our way down to stay with BobJ we have a night in each direction in Townsville staying at the Jupiter's Hotel and Casino. I have to say the food in the AQUA Restaurant was the best I have ever tasted, it seems like a lot of the locals head there as well. There is no need to get dressed up, people were wearing a mix of shorts, jeans and suits.
